Announcement on funding approval for research projects starting from 2018 in NAFOSTED – RCUK Joint Funding Program

On 23 October 2018, President of NAFOSTED Board of Trustees has approved list of 04 research projects starting from 2018 selected for funding in the framework of NAFOSTED – RCUK Joint Funding Program (Decision No.185/QD-HDQL-NAFOSTED).

After conducting financial assessment in accordance with current regulations, the President of NAFOSTED Board of Trustees has also approved financial plans for these 04 projects in the Decision No. 76/QD-HDQL-NAFOSTED dated on 21 January 2019. In the following weeks, NAFOSTED shall announce to principal investigators for proposal amendments, refinements and contract signing.

NAFOSTED – RCUK Joint Funding Program is carried out according to the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2016 and under the framework of the collaboration program between the United Kingdom (through the Newton Fund) and some South East Asian countries. Up to now, 02 calls for application have been launched for the following research topics: Atmospheric Pollution and Human Health, Water Resources, Tropical Peatlands and Mangroves (2016); Understanding of the Impacts of Hydrometeorological Hazards in South East Asia (2017). In the 2017 call, together with Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) – two partners from RCUK – NAFOSTED also extended the program priority to interdisciplinary research projects in the fields of natural sciences and social sciences. Funded research projects will be conducted within 24 – 36 months.

The Newton Fund builds research and innovation partnerships with 17 partner countries to support their economic development and social welfare, and to develop their research and innovation capacity for long-term sustainable growth. It has a total UK Government investment of £735 million up until 2021, with matched resources from the partner countries. The Newton Fund is managed by the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), and delivered through 7 UK delivery partners.
