Ta Quang Buu Award Ceremony 2015
On 16th May 2015, Ta Quang Buu Award Ceremony 2015 was held at the Headquarter of Ministry of Science and Technology. Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam – member of Party Central Committee, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan – member of Party Central, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Pham Cong Tac – Award Organization Committee President, the Award Juries and the other members of Award Organization Committee, representative Leaders of Ministries, Committees, industries, leading scientists of Institutes, universities, research agencies nationwide and the press.
Ta Quang Buu Award Ceremony is annual award hosted by Ministry of Science and Technology aimed honor outstanding scientists with excellent achievements in natural science & engineering basic research. The Award’s mission is to promote Vietnam science & technology in general and basic research in particular so as to reach international standards as a premise for Vietnam science & technology integration and development.
In 2015, there were 43 applications in total. After several review rounds, Award Juries had selected 4 scientists who worked in Mathematics, Earth Science and Environment, Technology Information and Computer Science. Three core awards were granted to three authors of excellent researches, including Prof. Dr. Dinh Dung – Institute of Information and Technology, Vietnam National University (Hanoi); Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Yen – Institute of Mathematics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; and Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Hai – Hanoi University of Mining and Geology. The other Award was granted to Assoc. Prof. Pham Hoang Hiep – Institute of Mathematics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, a young (less than 35 years old) with research excellence.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Ngo Viet Trung, Jury President said that Ta Quang Buu Award honored scientists with world-class research publication selected by Award Juries of noted scientists. This year, along with field Scientific Committee Presidents, the Award Juries also included noted international scientists – Prof. Pierre Darriulat, a Physicist from France and Prof. Vu Ha Van – a Math Professor of Yale University (U.S.A.).

Delivering speech congratulating award winners, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan said that recently Vietnam science and technology field has been achieved significant advances since the enactment of Science and Technology Law 2013, science and technology development strategy 2011-2020 and Party’s and the Government’s concerns for science and technology field. The number of research publications in ISI journals has increased dramatically. Minister also pointed out difficulties challenging Vietnamese scientists. He hoped that scientist communities and the authorities would work together to change the old mindset, create new policies that reaching international rules, create the best conditions for scientists to make innovations and contribute to the national socio-economic development.
