Ta Quang Buu Prize Committee holds a meeting for the 2017 prize selection

In the morning of April 28, 2017, Ta Quang Buu Prize Committee held a formal meeting to consider and select awardees for the 2017 prize. Attending the meeting were 11 members of the Committee: Dr. Pham Cong Tac (Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Chairman of the Committee); Prof. DSc. Dinh Dung (Vice President of the Committee), Prof. DSc. Nguyen Dong Anh, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Chien, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Du, Assoc.Prof. Dr. Duong Tan Nhut, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Van Tan, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Tuyen, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Prof. Dr. Pierre Darriulat and Prof. Dr. Trinh Xuan Thuan (University of Virginia , USA). In addition, the meeting was attended by Dr. Do Tien Dzung, Dr. Pham Dinh Nguyen (Director and Vice Director of the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development, Standing Committee of the Prize), and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thanh Ha (Deputy Chief of Department of Social and Natural Sciences, MOST.)

In 2017, NAFOSTED has received 30 applications for awarding the prize in 6 fields: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Earth Sciences and Biomedical science-pharmacy. After being reviewed by NAFOSTED Scientific Committees, four applicants have been proposed to the Prize Committee for further consideration and selection for this year’s awards. Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Pham Cong Tac (Chairman of the Prize Committee) said that the Committee would carry out the assessment and selection according to the regulations published by Ministry of Science and Technology (attached to Decision No. 817 / QD-BKHCN dated 23 April 2015). The working principle of the Prize Committee is based on consensus mechanism, collectively review the evaluations from the committee members and vote on the nominations. Criteria for assessing the applications will be based on the scientific value of the applications, the published quality rating as well as the scientist’s contribution to the research.
